LINCOLN, Nevada (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Jim Piren signed the law on Wednesday to ban transgender students from women’s sports, bringing it up to date to prevent transgender athletes from competing in female and girl teams.

Piren signed the law adjacent to dozens of lawmakers, female athletes and other supporters. Riley Gaineshe made his own name as an advocate for the voices banning trans athletes from women’s sports.

Republicans behind the sports ban say they protect women and girls and their ability to compete quite well in sports. Opponents say there are very few trans students trying to participate in sports, but this measure is a solution for problems.

Since 2018, fewer than 10 transgender students have applied to participate in the state’s middle and high school sports, the Nebraska School Activities Association said Wednesday.

At least 24 states have adopted similar bans. President Donald Trump also signed Presidential Order This year, the aim was to direct sports competitions that transgender athletes can participate in. I fought Main in court The state allows trans athletes in girls and women’s sports.

The American Civil Liberties Union in Nebraska has condemned the measure.

“This ban not only causes problems, it doesn’t solve them,” Rush Chipman said, adding that “constant targeting for LGBTQ+ Nebraskan has to stop.”
