Who is Blaise Metreweli cmg?
Metreweli CMG is set to become the first female chief of Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), as the Prime Minister announced, as he broke the barriers for women everywhere, as announced by the Prime Minister on June 15, 2025.
She joined MI6 in 1999 as a litigation officer and has played a variety of roles across services, with much of her career focusing on operational work in the Middle East and Europe.
Currently serving as the general director of technology and innovation at MI6, she also holds a director level position at MI5. Metruli studied anthropology at Pembroke University in Cambridge.
Why is it important?
Metreweli CMG will be the 18th Chief and first woman in the organization’s history when the UK faces an increasing threat from its enemies.
Commonly referred to as “C,” the Chief is operational responsibility for MI6 and is the only publicly appointed member of the organization. They are responsible for the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Secret Intelligence Service In 116 years of history, Metreweli CMG will be the first woman to hold this position.
She is currently the Director of “Q” who is responsible for technology and innovation for MI6 and previously took on the director level role at MI5. She takes over Sir Richard Moore. Richard Moore will leave service in the fall.
