Prime Minister Salam formed a new government as Hezbollah appears to be on the sidelines more and more.

Lebanon President Joseph Aung announced the creation of a new government after more than two years of interim cabinet amid political conflict and a massive economic collapse.

The president on Saturday said he has accepted the resignation of the caretaker government and appointed a new cabinet for Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, the first full-scale government since 2022.

The Cabinet is currently being charged with drafting a policy statement – a broad overview of the government’s approaches and priorities ahead – will require a vote of trust to fully empower the Lebanese parliament.

A diplomat and former president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Salam has committed to reforming Lebanon’s judiciary, implementing economic reforms and bringing stability.

Speaking to a reporter at the Presidential Palace, he said that Lebanon implemented UN resolution 1701, ending the previous war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006, and that Hezbollah and other non-states from the area south of the Ritani River He said he is seeking the withdrawal of actors. , the border with Israel.

Lebanon’s new government wants to access reconstruction funds and investments, as Beirut, which has recovered from a waning economic crisis since 2019 after a catastrophic war with Israel last year, wants to access reconstruction funds and investments. It shows a transition from a close leader.

Although Hezbollah did not support Salam as prime minister, the Lebanese group engaged in negotiations with him over the Shia Muslim seat of the government, following the Lebanese sectarian power-sharing system.

Former Army Secretary – also a candidate not approved by Hezbollah and his major allies, who was elected president in early January, ending the vacuum of that position.

The announcement called for Vice President Morgan Ortags, a vice president of the Middle Eastern envoy on Friday to be removed from the Lebanese government, and said Washington has set its ongoing presence in the cabinet “red line.”

The US embassy to Lebanon on Saturday issued a statement saying it welcomed the new government, wishing to implement reforms and rebuild national institutions.

Lebanon’s UN special coordinator, Janine Hennis Plasticchart, welcomed the announcement, “We announce a new bright chapter in Lebanon.”
