Almost two weeks after the New York Times reported that Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia has joined Elon Musk’s “government efficiency,” Gebbia announced on Thursday that he will clarify his role and leverage his design expertise at X as a starting point to slowly pass the government to stand out and leverage his design experts as part of an effort to overhaul the Pashy Retirement Process.

The system can use help at first glance. OPM’s acting director Chuck Ezell said it was republished by Gebbia in a video testimony released today that a week ago the administration had “challenge” to “process retirees and handle retirees, digitally, without printing on paper.” deadline? Only a week.

In the same video, an agency employee tells the photographer that they have already reduced the process in two days.

Whether the process is scalable, sustainable, or even repeatable remains to be seen, but OPM has been under pressure for years to modernize its system. Last summer, the agency launched a pilot program for its new online retirement application platform in response to ongoing concerns regarding delayed benefits processing. This issue attracted attention in 2023. Several lawmakers issued press releases, urging the OPM to deal with the slow handling of retirees.

Gebbia – a billionaire many times thanks to Airbnb Holdings – still serves on the board of the short-term rental giant. Since September 2022 he has also been a board member of Tesla.

Gebbia wrote: Gebbia wrote: And I can think of something almost important than volunteering to improve the user experience within our government. ”

In addition to co-founding Airbnb, Gebbia is the co-founder of Samara. Airbnb builds pre-built homes that customers can customize and offer choices of layout, colors, windows, doors and decks.

Last week, Samara announced that she would donate $15 million worth of housing to support Los Angelenos, who lost her home in the January fire.

Since Gebbia’s involvement in Doge was revealed, some Airbnb hosts have expressed disappointment on the platform, with some saying they’ve drawn the list to San Francisco standards. “Being in the DC area and seeing the impact Doge has had on our community and the economy, I feel I can no longer be a sincere Airbnb host,” said the standard longtime Airbnb host.

In a statement to the outlet, Airbnb emphasized that Gebvia has not been involved in daily operations since 2022, and the spokesman added: Our community consists of millions of hosts and millions of guests from all classes. ”
