Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok pivoted from anti-Semitism to anime girl Waifus.
Musk wrote in an X post on Monday that it was now available on the Grok app for “Super Grok” subscribers, where AI peers pay $30 a month.
According to a post shared by Musk, there are at least two AI mates available. Annie is an anime girl wearing a tight corset and a short black dress with thigh-high fish nets and a 3D fox creature Bad Rudy.
“This is pretty cool,” Musk wrote, sharing a photo of a blonde goth anime girl.
Given this paywall feature that has just been released, it remains to be seen whether these “peers” are designed to act as romantic benefits or if they resemble Grok’s different skins. However, while some companies certainly respond to romantic AI relationships, these relationships have proven unhealthy.
For example, Charition.ai currently faces multiple lawsuits from parents of children who used the platform and considers it unsafe. In one case, the parents sued after the chatbot encouraged their children to kill their parents. In another case, the chatbot told the child to kill him, and he followed immediately.
Even adults can be dangerous to rely on AI chatbots for emotional support. A recent paper found “significant risks” in people using chatbots such as “peers, confidants, therapists.”
Given that Xai failed to hold back the anti-Semitic Grok, known as “Mechahitler,” last week, creating more personality with Grok is a bold choice.
