Morgan Wallen is responding to criticism following the sudden cancellation of his tour in Pittsburgh.
On Saturday (June 6), the country star announced that a concert scheduled for that night at Acresure Stadium was canceled due to severe weather concerns.
“After discussions with local authorities and my team, we have no choice but to cancel tonight’s show due to severe weather conditions expected throughout the day and night,” Warren wrote on Instagram. “The safety of our fans and staff is our top priority.”
Hours later, the “Last Night” singer returned to her Instagram Stories and posted a video message responding to the backlash and speculation surrounding her decision. In the video, Warren explained that her team advised her to cancel the show that morning after local authorities warned of potentially dangerous wind conditions in the area.
“So, that’s what I did. That was the information I had at this point and I trusted the team,” he said. “We understand that the wind and other things haven’t reached Pittsburgh yet. We know that it’s affecting parts of Pennsylvania, so our hearts go out to everyone who’s been affected.”
Warren added, “But the reality is, I had a big stage to play and that situation could be fatal for a lot of people around me. So I did the best I could with the information I had at that moment.”
The singer went on to address the “nonsense” being spread about him online.
“I’ve seen a lot of nonsense about me that is completely untrue,” Warren said, adding, “I want to clear the air.” He concluded, “I’m sure my true fans know that that’s not how I usually do it, but I had to say it. Everyone, please be careful.”
Saturday was designated as KDKA’s first warning weather day, with forecasters warning of the possibility of strong winds to severe storms. The weather system is expected to move through the Pittsburgh area during the evening, with the greatest threat occurring between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to CBS News.
Following the cancellation, some skeptical fans voiced their frustration on social media.
“It’s really funny that Morgan Wallen canceled last night’s show because I came out after work at 11pm and my car was bone dry,” one person wrote on X. “There was no sign of rain. The man was already on his way back to Tennessee.”
KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin claimed on X that “Acrisure Stadium officials are furious. … Warren flew out of town without a meeting and demanded that they announce the cancellation once they got on the plane.”
The cancellation came the night after Warren’s first of two scheduled performances in Pittsburgh. During his concert at Acresure Stadium on Friday (June 5), the country’s superstar joined former WWE star and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle in a signature strike.
