Fontaine DC’s manager Trevor Dietz has passed away, the band announced in a statement. The Irish quintet confirmed on Instagram that Dietz had passed away on Sunday (June 7), saying they were “completely heartbroken” by the news. The cause of death has not been made public.
“Trevor has been by our side from the beginning of our journey as a band. Without him, the sixth member of the band, we would not know Fontaine DC,” the band wrote. “He cared passionately about what was fair and right in us and the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will always miss him.”
DC Fontaine added: “We ask that you please respect our and his family’s privacy at this very difficult time. Rest in Peace Trev.”
Dietz formed part of the band’s management team along with members of Wildlife Entertainment (Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood). He was active with the group from its early stages and was also the promoter of the Workman’s Club venue in Dublin.
During his time with the band, Fontaine DC released four studio albums: Dogrel (2019), A Hero’s Death (2020), Skinty Fia (2022), and Romance (2024). The latter was nominated for a 2025 Grammy Award and headlined London’s 40,000-capacity Finsbury Park on the Romance Tour. Fontaine DC will be returning to the stage this summer, headlining the Reading & Leeds Festival.
Dietz, who also owned Garage Bar, began managing bands in 2016. Speaking at the 2019 MIX (Music Industry Xplained) course, Dietz recalled their first meeting. “I wouldn’t have worked with the band if they didn’t have big expectations and big dreams,” he said. “If anyone else had heard the conversation that day, I would have thought, ‘Damn, these guys are crazy, that’s not going to happen,’ but we knew this could go far beyond Ireland. So, first and foremost, we need a band that shares our vision and is trustworthy, responsible and honest.”
The group released their debut single “Liberty Belle” in 2017 and subsequently signed with Partizan Records. “They were confident in exposing themselves lyrically and bringing out their ideas,” Dietz said in 2019. “As a manager, I want to know that bands are capable of doing things on their own.” Fontaine DC’s 2022 album Skinty Fear reached number one on both the Official Albums Charts in Ireland and the UK. In 2024, the band signed with XL Records.
In the same interview, Dietz reflected on the highlights of his career. “For the last 20 years, we’ve survived this game without compromise,” he said. “We’ve never had to use a DJ or band that we thought was lame.”
