Jason Derulo may like to talk dirty, but he keeps it clean on stage even when it comes to foul language. The R&B pop star took a fall while performing at the Capitals Summertime Ball in London on Saturday (June 6), but recovered like a pro.
A video now circulating after the weekend’s event shows Derulo’s foot slipping out from under him and tumbling forward from a raised podium above the stage at Wembley Stadium. The apparent force of the fall could have easily caused him injury, but instead the musician was able to steady himself in a crouched position by placing his hands on the platform behind him.
With a modest smile on his face at the audience in front of him, Derulo, who only briefly recovered, got to his feet and continued the show, a two-time No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 2009’s “Watcha Say” and 2020’s “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh.
The musician later posted a fan video of the close call on TikTok, joking in the comments: “I’m always in love with you.”
He may have been referring to a 10-year-old hoax that claimed he fell down the stairs at the Met Gala in 2015. Although debunked when the so-called reference photo turned out to be a completely different person who fell at the Cannes Film Festival years ago, the meme resurfaces almost every year around the first Monday in May.
Derulo was one of many big stars to perform at the annual Capital event in London. He took to the stage between sets by Niall Horan, Robyn, RAYE, Laura Young, Sienna Spiro and Calvin Harris.
Derulo’s EP, The Last Dance (Part 1), was released in January.
