Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé and others contributed to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in Canada.
A star-studded opening ceremony was held at Toronto Stadium on Friday (June 12) ahead of Canada’s tournament opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Alessia Cara kicked off the festival with a spirited performance of her 2016 song “Wild Things,” singing from inside a giant gold-rimmed soccer ball. The opening number also featured a number of dancers waving flags and holding artwork inspired by Canadian wildlife.
From there, singer Nora Fatehi, DJ Sanjoy and rapper Vejidream took to the stage to perform their song ‘Siir’ from the official album of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Elianna and Jesse Reyes later teamed up to perform another song from the project, “Illuminate.”
Morissette then gave a moving rendition of Canada’s national anthem, “O Canada,” and violinist Aleksandar Gajic performed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national anthem.
Bublé concluded the ceremony with a rendition of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It on Home to Me” with the Sole Power Choir.
“The opening ceremony in Toronto will be a powerful reflection of Canada’s identity and the energy surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.
“Through music, culture and unforgettable performances, we will welcome the world with a celebration that is uniquely Canadian, while also connecting to the larger story unfolding in Mexico and the United States. It will be a moment of pride, unity and excitement as Canada takes to soccer’s biggest stage.”
Late Friday, Katy Perry, Lisa, Anitta, Tyra, Rema, Future, Dan + Shay and more headlined the 2026 FIFA World Cup USA Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles.
The day before, Shakira and Burna Boy performed their World Cup anthem “Die Die” at Estadio Ciudad de Mexico. Mana, J Balvin, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Azures, and Tyra also attended this amazing show.
