Most people’s weddings don’t get noticed by the mayor, but Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce aren’t most people. And at a press conference on Monday (June 15), Mayor Zoran Mamdani seemed to confirm reports that the couple will wed in New York City over the Fourth of July weekend amid large-scale events and discussions about public safety.
Speaking to reporters, the progressive New York mayor was asked about his plans to ensure a safe environment on July 5, when FIFA is scheduled to take over MetLife Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey, for a match. “I have complete confidence in the efforts of the NYPD and our state partners to provide a safe experience,” Mamdani said. “We’re the largest city in the country. We’re used to big events and we’re incredibly excited about this one.”
“We know that America’s 250th anniversary on the 4th of July and Taylor Swift’s wedding will happen at the same time,” he continued with a smile. “And we’re very excited to welcome people from all over the world here.”
Naturally, Mamdani was asked if she had received an invitation to the couple’s big day and if she planned to attend. “No, no,” he said, laughing. “I wish them a wonderful wedding. I’ll be listening to ‘Only the Young’ alone at home.”
Billboard has reached out to representatives for Swift and Kelsea for comment.
Reached for comment, a city official in the mayor’s office noted that Mamdani’s comments were based purely on TMZ’s previous reporting that the musician had applied for a permit to perform at Madison Square Garden over the Fourth of July weekend, presumably to hold a wedding there at the time. Although neither Swift nor Kelsea have revealed the date or venue of their upcoming wedding, they have both expressed how excited they are to get married.
“It’s going to be fun to plan,” Swift told Graham Norton last fall, smiling that she would include “everyone I’ve ever talked to” on the invite list.
Kelce has previously hinted that he and his famous fiancée will tie the knot in the summer, and with the Chiefs’ training camp in late July just around the corner, there’s only so much time left before the ceremony takes place this summer.
