This is a woman’s intuition, as Olivia Rodrigo always had a vision of organizing her own festival, all women. That dream will become a reality this August, with heavy hitters including Chapel Lawn, Doechie and Kate Eye performing.
And in an interview with Good Morning America on Tuesday (June 23) about the first Daisy Chain Fields exhibit, the star shared some of her inspirations and hinted at a possible duet with Stevie Nicks, another iconic artist in the lineup. “When I envisioned this festival, I had images in my head of girls sitting under trees making little daisy chains, flower crowns, friendship bracelets, things like that,” she told Diane Sawyer about how she decided on the event’s name. “I also like the idea of a daisy chain, how we can all be individual connections within a chain that is larger than the individual.”
She also gave flowers to Lilith Fair, the groundbreaking all-female festival founded by Sarah McLachlan in the 1990s. “Sarah McLachlan was actually the first person I called when I decided to do this festival,” Rodrigo revealed. “She is a complete trailblazer and a wonderful artist and friend.”
The former Disney star announced on Monday (June 22) that she is launching her own festival, with all proceeds going to charities supporting women and girls and reproductive freedom. Daisy Chain Fields, which takes place on August 29th in Irvine, California, will also feature performances by Bikini Kill, Die Spitz, Eli, Garbage, Mitski, Not For Radio, Quiet Life, Rachel Chinouriri, and Stantigold and the Breeders.
Karen O and McLachlan are being touted as “special guests” as well as the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman. When Sawyer shared his vision of Rodrigo singing “Landslide” with the Nicks, the Gen Z star smiled and said, “We might make it happen for you, Diane. Let’s see. I can’t give too much away.”
News of Daisy Chain Fields comes shortly after the release of Rodrigo’s third studio album. Sounds pretty sad for a girl who fell in love. Led by the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Drop Dead,” the project recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning 485,000 equivalent album units, the biggest first week of Rodrigo’s career to date.
