The “P” stands for parody, but that’s enough. Billboard can exclusively reveal on Wednesday (June 24) that Sesame Street is putting together the basics to release an adorable album featuring kid-friendly parodies of pop music’s biggest hits.
The seven-song album, titled Parody Party, will feature three previously released satirical send-ups and four new takes. The collection arrives on July 26th and will be distributed by Warner Music’s Arts Music.
The lead single is Cookie Monster’s “Take a Bite,” which of course is about his favorite subject: cookies. Billboard also premiered an adorable music video in which baking enthusiasts take on Bruno Mars’ Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “I Just Mite” and argue about the perfect way to bake cookies.
“Hey, Mr. Baker! Oooooh!/ We can’t resist that buttery flavor!/ If cookie tastes as good as it looks right now/ Me will take a bite, a big bite!/ Me not going to wait, me gobble up an entire plate, hey!” Cookie sings excitedly as his Cookie Monster friends jam.
In addition to “Take a Bite,” the tracklist includes:
“Where Is My Husband?” is RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband!” by Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, and Elmo. (No.11). The R&B track will follow a trio searching for a beloved missing toy. “Go for the Gold” is an arrangement of HUNTR/X’s 8-week No.1 hit “Golden” from Netflix’s hit KPop Demon Hunters. According to Sesame Street, the parody features Abby, Zoe, and Rosita “celebrating the power of teamwork and friendship.” “Got to Go” is a potty training anthem from Chapel Lawn’s #15 hit “Hot to Go!” Delivered by Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Abby, it features lyrics that help kids recognize when their bodies are telling them it’s time to go to the bathroom. The previously released “Me Want It But Me Wait” (a take on Icona Pop’s 2013 No. 7 hit “I Love It”) sees Cookie Monster return to center stage, singing about how to practice willpower when tempted by your favorite candy. It also includes Taylor Swift’s 2014 No. 4 hit, “Shake It Off,” sung years ago by everyone’s favorite grump Oscar the Grouch. The hit version of the trash can-dwelling creature is an ode to recycling. Last but not least, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” which spent nine weeks at No. 1 in 2012, is also parodied on this album. Cookie Monster’s previously released song titled “Share It Maybe” is about how offering your treats to others can bring you great joy.
