Madison Square Garden, the reported wedding venue for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, has many advantages available to the A-list couple, from the building’s discreet entrance for guests to the lack of windows to prevent paparazzi photography. However, as Mayor Zoran Mamdani pointed out in a recent press conference, there will be another big benefit during the rumored festive period. It’s all about protecting against the historic heatwave heading toward New York City over the next few days.

On Tuesday (June 30), the mayor stressed to New Yorkers and the press the importance of staying indoors (using air conditioning if possible) and drinking water as temperatures soar to 100 degrees Fahrenheit starting Thursday (July 2) and continuing into the Fourth of July weekend. The holiday happened to coincide with the reported wedding of a pop star and a Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

“We know these temperatures are coming in a week that should be full of celebrations, gatherings and outdoor fun,” Mamdani told a news conference, noting that “World Cup matches, Independence Day events” and other events are scheduled for what will be the hottest weekend ever in the city this year.

When asked about how it will affect the city in relation to Swift and Kelsea’s reported big day, Mamdani said, “My advice to all New Yorkers is to stay inside and stay cool.”

“If I happen to get married at Madison Square Garden, I can stay home and stay calm,” he continued with a smile. “I think this is a good example to set throughout the city.”

Reports first surfaced a few weeks ago that the couple had chosen MSG for their big day, but neither Swift nor Kelce have commented personally. Also, the location seems to be kept a secret from guests for now.

“I actually asked Travis, [where it is] “He laughed at me last night,” San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle recently told Entertainment Tonight. “I was half expecting to see just a jumbo jet on the runway, but they put us on some plane.”

Mamdani has previously commented on the wedding and confirmed that it will take place at MSG. But shortly after, the mayor’s office told Billboard that it was simply citing a TMZ report that Swift and Kelsea had received permission to use the arena.

“We know [the World Cup] “It coincides with America’s 250th anniversary on July 4th and Taylor Swift’s wedding, so it’s all happening at the same time,” he joked in June, while talking about extra safety precautions during New York City’s busy season, “and we’re so excited to have the world here.”
