Pretty Lights have released their first new album in 13 years, the 45-track “A Trip Through Time Fantastic.” The project marks the artist’s fifth studio album and first since 2013’s A Color Map of the Sun.
The project’s 45 songs are divided into nine sections called “constellations” by producer Derrick Vincent Smith. The first three constellations, which contain 15 songs, are not on DSP, but can be streamed and downloaded for free from the Pretty Lights website.
“I said over 10 years ago that I didn’t want to focus on any album after ‘ACMOTS’, but instead shifted my energy to living creative systems and conscious unity through Soundship Spatial Systems and Spiral Bridges,” Smith wrote on social media when announcing the album on July 1st. “So much music has been created over the last few years with some of my closest friends, with the aim of spiraling and experimenting with our journey into conveying expressive flow states and reaching new depths of connection with our beloved space caravan, PLF.” [Pretty Lights Family].
“In the weaving of timelines over the past nine years,” the statement continues. “I built a home with the love of my life, found my spiritual path, reunited with my eternal soul brother Michal Menert, formed an AV ensemble to run a mobile laboratory, and was blessed with the most beautiful experience of my life – meeting my son Ayaan. It’s time to release the food for our musical whirlpool in the form of the next PL album. A galaxy of 45 songs in 9 constellations has come together ahead of my 45th birthday.”
The project will run alongside a seven-city summer and fall tour that includes Ohio’s Secret Dreams Music Festival, Pretty Lights’ own Yarn Dawn Festival, and a second stop in Buena Vista, Colorado this September and Hulaween, Florida in October.
