Beyoncé will set off fireworks on Independence Day this year.

On Saturday (July 4), the 44-year-old superstar surprise released his first new song in two years, titled “Morning Dew (Donk).”

According to a press release, the song “begins a 60-day countdown to her next birthday and the re-release of her groundbreaking sophomore album ‘B’Day,’ released 20 years ago on September 4, 2006.”

The smooth, rhythmic four-minute song will be included on the 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 following its release on September 4, 2006. This day is also Beyoncé’s birthday.

The LP spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Irreplaceable,” which spent 10 weeks at No. 1, and “Déjà Vu,” featuring Jay-Z, which peaked at No. 4, further cementing Beyoncé’s reputation for producing critically acclaimed, hit-filled albums that would define her career.

“Morning Dew (Donk)” was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, and produced by Beyoncé and Williams.

The song was released on all major streaming platforms at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, along with a black-and-white lyric video of Beyoncé sunbathing and splashing in the ocean. The visual reuses footage shot by photographer and director Cliff Watts for Bey’s 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover.

“I think I expressed this personally,” Kehlani commented in a Parkwood Entertainment Instagram post announcing the song.

“Morning Dew (Donk)” is Beyoncé’s first new song since the release of her eighth solo studio album, “Cowboy Carter,” which spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2024.
