Ariana Grande has treated fans to a bouquet of exciting new merchandise ahead of the release of Petal, sharing another picture disc for the album and two snippets of unreleased songs from the project.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday (July 8), the pop star started the merry-go-round with a horizontal black-and-white headshot partially covered in shadow and out-of-focus flowers. The snap is printed on a batch of exclusive discs that are currently available for pre-order on her website.
She then included two videos featuring samples from the song “Petal.” One of them was shot in the studio while listening to the mix on the speakers. “Good things can replace dysfunction and obsession/Thank you, but I’ll see you soon/Good luck on your way to hell/Oh well,” Grande sings over reverb-heavy a cappella harmonies.
The Grammy winner didn’t specify anything in his post, but judging from the lyrics, the snippet could come from track 5 of Petal, “Oh Well.” Grande previously announced the tracklist in a visual countdown during her ongoing Eternal Sunshine Tour.
“Someday all the seeds will open / All the human lives I’ve dreamed / Will come true if I start over / What would it feel like?” she sings in the second song snippet included in the post, “Grande,” which similarly has the accompaniment removed to focus on her haunting vocals.
Two years after her last album, Eternal Sunshine, it spent three weeks atop the Billboard 200 and produced two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Yes and And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends” – Petal is scheduled for release on July 31st. So far, she’s only shared one song from this set: lead single “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which debuted at the top of the Hot 100.
