Multi-diagnostic tests for use in animal health that can be used by anyone, anywhere, bring rapid results.

As a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic, patients have grown to expect early detection and rapid turnaround test results. Just like with human medicine, pet parents are no longer willing to wait for a call from the lab when they bring their dogs or cats to the veterinarian room. They expect near-instant test results. This change in patient expectations drives the Control Point CEO’s Pola Walker.

Pioneering on-site diagnosis of respiratory diseases in dogs

ControlPoint Inc. is an animal diagnostics company focused on developing tests that can be used anywhere and by anyone. Released in 2020, ControlPoint is on a mission to improve the health and welfare of animals around the world. Its first product launch will offer a point-of-care test for the Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC).

Walker said: “When your pet’s health is at risk, rapid and accurate testing and diagnosis are important. ControlPoint brings innovative new tools to veterinarians and other people who care for your pet.”

Cirdc, also known as kennel cough, is highly contagious and early detection is important. All breeds and ages are susceptible to the effects. As the name “Kuken Cough” suggests, dogs at risk are dogs that are exposed to environments where multiple dogs are normally collected or housed, such as dogs, shelters, and day care facilities. . Several different types of bacteria and viruses can contribute to CIRDCs, and dogs can infect two or more of these organisms at the same time.

Symptoms of coughing in a kennel include frequent coughing, nausea, and lifting, and foam that lasts for several weeks. It can often worsen after exercise or activity and stimulate the airways. Not all dogs cough. Other symptoms include runny nose, eyes and sneezing.

Benefits of On-site Testing

Veterinary examinations at the site of kennel coughs have significant advantages over laboratory-based testing. This usually involves tedious and expensive laboratory techniques and highly skilled personnel. From sample collection to communication of results, all analytical processes involved in the test can be performed in one step, significantly reducing the time between testing and treatment. Point-of-care testing can enable more affordable veterinary care, reduced animal handling, targeted treatments, and rapid diagnosis in remote areas.

ControlPoint’s first product to diagnose SIRCD can lead to major changes in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and may provide test results within minutes. Current tests are expensive and can take weeks to get results. Market research shows that 80% of veterinarians are interested in such products. Additionally, 98% of pet parents take pets with clinical signs of CIRDC to the veterinarian, and over 90% choose a point-of-care test on the same treatment day, predicting a high adoption rate. ControlPoint has also undergone considerable market and product verification from its clinical partners, a shelter located in Southern California.

Walker added: “We have the opportunity to ensure that animals’ lives and well-being will be significantly improved through the currently developing point-of-care testing. Looking at the products tested and the next milestone in the exciting launch process. ”
