Musicians celebrate the New York Knicks’ first NBA championship in 53 years.
On Saturday (June 13), the Knicks won the title with a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 at Frostbank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Following the historic win, music stars including Cardi B, Fat Joe, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez took to social media to celebrate the series’ first win since 1973.
Cardi B recorded her overreaction in an Instagram Live video as she jumped out of bed and excitedly ran around the house screaming “Oh my God!” and “I won!” She later explained that she needed to get ready to go because “the city is calling me.”
Fat Joe, a longtime Knicks supporter who regularly cheers on the team from a courtside seat, also reported the incident on social media.
“Never give up,” Joe captioned an Instagram photo of himself posing next to the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The rapper also shared several celebratory posts, including a courtside video with actor Timothée Chalamet and actress Teyana Taylor.
Alicia Keys also joined in the celebrations by posting a video of the large crowds of spectators who filled the streets of New York City after her win. In the clip, a fan could be heard singing his 2009 hit song “Empire State of Mind” with Jay-Z.
“Empire state of mind!!!!!!,” she captioned the Instagram post.
Jennifer Lopez had one of the most memorable reactions of the night, sharing a video on Instagram of herself watching the final moments of the match from her home. When the game was over, the Bronx native jumped up in celebration before collapsing onto the couch, exclaiming, “Yes!” and “Oh my god!”
Lopez accompanied the clip with a heartfelt message reflecting on his lifelong connection with the team.
“Congratulations to the New York Knickerbockers for the NBA championship!!!!!!” Lopez began. “I remember the last time the Knicks were cruising toward a championship and rushing home from every game set to watch the onslaught of Ewing, Starks, and Oakley.”
“We have all waited patiently for this day for years. Thank you for bringing our city back together… for uniting the world. You have restored our faith, hope, and belief that there is nothing we can’t do!! Hard work, goodwill, and teamwork pay off! You set our city on fire!! Proud to be from the neighborhood!!
