While many people online don’t approve of charli

In his Rolling Stone cover story published Thursday (June 18), Charli first addressed the negative reaction to some of his May singles, “Rock Music.” On the experimental track, she sings, “I think the dance floor is dead/So now I make rock music.”

“Those lyrics really describe my relationship with Brat,” she explained. “my husband [George Daniel] Operates a dance music label. There have been a lot of great dance/electronic-adjacent records released recently, including Slayyyter, Underscores, and Pink Pantheres. Dance music is in an incredible position. ”

Her reaction comes after some on the internet took her lyrics seriously and pushed back on her assessment of the current state of the genre. Charli has been a trailblazer for dance music in its modern, hyper-pop evolution, but fans of artists who have pivoted to dance music in the past year, such as Harry Styles and Demi Lovato, question the Moments star’s authority to make such declarations. Even Madonna seemed to subtly criticize Charli in May, writing on Instagram, “If the dance floor feels dead, you might be playing the wrong music.”

However, as Charlie explained, the lyrics for “Rock Music” were solely about her “personal experience” during her time with Brat and how it recently ended. “The conversations are loud and can be very overwhelming at times,” she told Rolling Stone about the chatter about herself, which led to a difficult time for her mentally.

“I’m finding it difficult…I don’t know,” she continued. “To be honest, I find myself feeling very emotionally unstable right now.”

The musician said he has taken a step back from the internet and is not interested in explaining any more about his songs or lyrics, saying, “I’ve reached a point where my anxiety is affecting me physically and I can’t really move forward with my life that way.”

“I really haven’t seen it. [online] Charlie is currently preparing to release his new album “Music, Fashion, Film” on July 24th. I know people probably won’t believe me because I’m essentially, at least in the past, a very online artist. But lately I’ve been really struggling with my mental health and to be honest, I’m in the worst place I’ve ever been mentally in my life. ”
