Let’s talk about Call of Cthulhu, or in this case Cathulhu. Deadmau5 shared in an Instagram post on Tuesday (June 16) that she is adding a fourth cat to her family and that it’s Cat Adoption Month.
“Today I went to meet the kittens. Giddy, Peanuts will have a new roommate after the weekend,” the electronic artist captioned the Merry-Go-Round post, which included a photo of an adorable, grumpy-looking 3-year-old tabby cat named Cathulhu, and a video of the kitten rolling around as Deadmau5 tries to put his finger in its kennel to give it a scrape. (Dizzy, Dolly, and Peanut are deadmau5’s current cats at home.)
Leah Sems, Content Director at Deadmau5, commented on this post: “The new king of the castle!”
An artist named Joel Zimmerman was visiting the Oakville, Milton and Halton Humane Society in Ontario, Canada. When the shelter asked for funds on May 27 after taking in 27 felines in need of medical treatment, the breeder quickly responded to the request for $30,000 and is now rehoming one of the animals.
The cat-loving artist, who recently finished participating in Gumball 3000 after making a donation and shared an exclusive photo with Billboard, posted on his Patreon on June 7, asking fans to help him name about 30 cats and sharing photos of them. The third was a gorgeous male tabby with an elegantly curled white beard, for whom some followers suggested the name Catulhu. “The crazy beard makes the perfect tentacle, and its ears look like wings!” wrote one referring to HP Lovecraft’s macabre being Cthulhu. A few days later, in another Patreon post revealing all of the new kitten’s nicknames, deadmau5 confirmed that No. 3 was indeed named Cathulhu.
Even before announcing Cathulhu’s adoption, deadmau5 recently hinted that the family could be adding another furry friend. Shortly after donating to help 27 cats, he told local news site Inside Hamilton:
The dance music giant has never been shy about his love for cats and his penchant for adopting from animal shelters. Deadmau5, who is often active with the Toronto Humane Society, explained why pet adoption is important to him in a 2025 interview with Billboard about his late cat Professor Nyawington and his current kittens Peanut, Dizzy, and Dolly.
“There’s so much coming in.” In the end, if you get kicked out of the house or something and eat something on the street and turn into a cat, you end up with a lot of kittens and no one can take care of them. “I choose to adopt handcrafted exotic cats rather than have them as exhibits, because they know that rescue is… somewhere in their tiny little brains.” [you saved them]”
