Thousands of fans were shocked, and artists alike, were heartbroken to hear that Doja Cat and Massive Attack’s headliner Primavera Sound’s set was canceled due to extreme weather in Barcelona on Thursday (June 4).

That night, both the rapper and the trip-hop group shared messages to fans after it was announced that high winds and rainstorms made it unsafe to proceed with the rest of the festival’s program. “Barcelona, I’m dressed up and ready to take the stage, but it’s not safe to continue the show tonight,” Doja wrote to X. I will think of everything under the sun to make it up to you. ”

Massive Attack members 3D and Daddy G said in a statement on Instagram that they felt “devastated” by the cancellation. “We were really excited to play this festival after the disappointment last time,” they continued. “No one can control inclement weather, and we understand that. And the safety of our audience, show staff, staff, and artists must come first… A deep frustration for us as artists is not being able to communicate directly with our fans, who we know are just as upset as we are, amidst the chaos.”

Doja also took to the livestream to further show her fans how disappointed she was. “The weather wasn’t going to get any better…I guess no one really knew how bad it was going to get,” the Grammy winner, dressed in extravagant, colorful stage attire and theatrical makeup melting from her face with tears, choked up to her Instagram Live audience.

“I wanted to see you all tonight,” she continued. “I love you so much and I’m completely devastated and torn up about this whole thing. I know it’s not my fault, yeah, it’s the weather, but I’m sorry. I wanted to give you a great show tonight.”

Thursday was the first day of the three-day festival, which ended earlier than planned due to dangerous weather. After Geese performed in a chaotic rainstorm, the night’s headliners, as well as sets by Alex G, Mac DeMarco and Bart Gal, were canceled.

Primavera Sound said in a statement on Friday, June 5, “We understand and share the audience’s frustration and disappointment with this situation, which is not what we expected,” and that ticket holders would soon receive refunds. “We would like to thank our viewers for their understanding and confirm that despite the difficult circumstances, there were no serious incidents.”

The second day of the festival is scheduled to go ahead as scheduled, with performances by The Cure, Skrillex, Pink Pantherless, Ethel Kane, Role Models, My Bloody Valentine and more.

See Doja and Massive Attack’s posts below.

Barcelona, I’m fully dressed and ready to go on stage, but I’m not safe enough to continue the show tonight. It is very unfortunate that we are in this situation now. I will think of everything under the sun to make it up to you. Stay safe and warm, let’s take a look…
