Liam Gallagher has reacted to Harry Kane losing his voice singing Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ after England’s dramatic win against Mexico at the FIFA World Cup on Sunday night (July 6).
The Three Lions saw off Mexico in a 3-2 thriller at Mexico City’s legendary Estadio Azteca in one of the most thrilling games of the tournament. Jude Bellingham put the visitors ahead with two goals in quick succession in the first half, before team captain Kane extended the scoreline with a second-half penalty. England’s Jarrell Quansah was then sent off with a red card for a reckless challenge, leaving England with one man less for the rest of the game, with Mexico scoring twice to ensure an emotional finale.
After the final whistle, England sang Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ in front of supporters who had traveled to the iconic Mexico City Stadium. England fans and players will traditionally sing the 1995 Britpop classic after matches against Croatia, Ghana, Panama and the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the 2026 tournament.
However, after the performance, Kane was almost speechless, and the captain said in an interview with BBC Sport: “I’m just there singing. I can’t really speak.”
After the interview aired, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher wrote in X: “Singing Harry Kane in an England commercial for Wonderwall is a tough job.”
Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a serious wrist injury after falling on an advertising board on his way home from an Oasis-sponsored celebration with fans, while another England player also returned from the singalong with an injury. He had to be carried away on a stretcher by medical staff.
England will face Norway in the quarter-finals of the competition in Miami on Saturday (July 11).
