Goose paid tribute to a fan who died after falling from an elevated structure during the band’s concert at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, June 20th.

According to the New York City Police Department, Paul Cukor, 51, of Niantic, Connecticut, fell from a height inside the venue just before 10 p.m. local time. Officers responding to the 911 call found Cukor unconscious and unresponsive with injuries that appeared to have occurred from a fall from a “height” position, police said.

Authorities said Cukor was in section 300 of the arena. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police do not suspect foul play and the investigation continues. Police said Cukor was attending a concert with his wife.

After the concert, Goose released a statement on Instagram mourning his death.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic events that occurred at tonight’s show,” the band wrote. “We would like to express our deepest sympathies to everyone affected. We would like to thank the emergency personnel and venue staff who rushed to the scene with the utmost care.”

Madison Square Garden also addressed the incident in a statement.

“While we await the police report regarding the tragedy that occurred at last night’s Goose concert, we are deeply saddened by the loss of a fan’s life at Madison Square Garden,” the venue said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the concertgoers.”

The Connecticut-based rock band continued its scheduled SummerStage performance in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday night. Before the show, Goose said he considered holding a concert, but decided to do it as a way to bring fans together.

“We have considered whether or not to play, but have come to the decision that the best thing we can do right now is to bring our community together, rely on each other, and provide space to heal,” they said. “So tonight, let’s be kind to each other and remember our friends.”

The band also said that proceeds from the SummerStage show will be donated to a charitable foundation that provides support and resources for fans.

At the start of Sunday’s performance, multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach addressed the crowd and observed a moment of silence for Cukor.

“We wanted to take a moment to address the tragic events that occurred on last night’s show and express our deepest condolences to Paul, his family, friends, and everyone affected by this event,” Anspach said.

“Moments like this make you realize how fragile life is. We are so lucky to have such an amazing community around us,” he continued. “Everyone, if you have any troubles, please do not hesitate to contact someone close to you or send a message.

“We have to help each other. That’s why we’re here. People are supposed to talk and spend time together. Thank you for being here tonight, and we really appreciate you. We love you.”

The Madison Square Garden concert was part of a two-night New York tour for Goose, who has built a cult following through extensive touring and improvised live shows.

At the time of publication, authorities had not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the fall.
