Jennifer Lopez looks at heartbreak differently than most.
J. Lo took part in an extended interview with Subway Takes on Tuesday (June 30), in which she explained that if she was going to end the relationship, she should go to a party. Because it’s the beginning of becoming a better version of yourself.
“A breakup is not a failure. I honestly feel like a breakup is a springboard to my next best self,” she said. “When you break up, you should have a party. People should say, ‘Break up? Congratulations,’ because one, you made the decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everyone.”
The multi-hyphenate admitted she’s been on both sides of heartbreak, but believes those who have been heartbroken have come out on top.
“If you’re heartbroken, you’re the winner,” the singer claimed. “Because if you go full circle in life and your heart is about to break, let’s just say you’re a loser. I’ve been on both sides. We all do. But if you’re like that, you’ll never learn anything.”
Lopez continued, “I feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, and psychologically have always come from heartbreaks. And it’s not just romantic relationships, it’s work-related heartbreaks as well.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Jenny From the Block has experienced her fair share of heartbreak and relationships. She recently ended her marriage to actor Ben Affleck in 2024. The marriage comes after the pair got engaged in the early 2000s, broke up in 2004, and rekindled their romance in 2021.
The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” artist is also married to Marc Anthony, Ojani Noa, and Chris Judd. Lopez shares teenage twins Max and Emme with Anthony. The 56-year-old was previously engaged to former MLB superstar Alex Rodriguez, but they called it quits in 2021 after nearly four years of dating.
In the past, J. Lo has been romantically linked to Drake, Diddy, actor Casper Smart, and most recently comedian Brett Goldstein.
On the music front, Lopez teamed up with Brazilian DJ Alok to release the dance-friendly “Everything’s Fine” on June 26th. Earlier this year, the Bronx native teamed up with David Guetta to perform “Save Me Tonight.”
