Taylor Swift joined two of her three HAIM sisters and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay courtside at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night (June 10) to cheer on the New York Knicks in the biggest upset in NBA Finals history.
Swift, who lives in New York City, appeared to be attending a star-studded celebrity parade at The Garden. However, Knicks radio analyst Monica McNutt questioned Swift’s loyalty to NYK.
McNutt’s play-by-play partner, Tyler Murray, was trying to take the picture of Swift below, but she wasn’t having it. “She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl,” she mocked the pop star.
The clip quickly went viral on social media as Swifties defended the pop superstar. “It’s always a shame when women are bitter towards other women for no reason,” one person wrote to X.
Billboard has reached out to Swift’s representatives for comment.
McNutt addressed the backlash over her comments on Thursday morning (June 11) in an Instagram Stories video in which she spoke to a reporter about the viral clip. “Swifties, thank you for your passion. I said what I said. Here’s the deal, if I’m wrong, apparently I’m wrong,” the Knicks radio analyst said. “She has an OG Amare Stoudemire jersey. I made the mistake of saying I didn’t know, but this is what the deal is about. I literally just did a piece on Celebrity Row. I’ve been with this organization for five years. I know Ben Stiller, his wife, Spike Lee, Fat Joe. I’ve seen her here this year and last year. I just met her in Cleveland with her fiancé. Obviously Travis supports the Cavs, but she didn’t have any Knicks paraphernalia, so I didn’t know about her loyalty to the Knicks, but shout out to T-Swift, we can unite in orange and blue, that’s okay!
McNutt added: “She was in the trenches! I just didn’t see her!…Good luck, Taylor!”
TMZ Sports later shared the clip online.
Perhaps Swift was also the first to know about the rumored wedding venue. The “Bad Blood” singer, actress and the Haim sisters all rocked custom Nicks shirts that read “Stevie Nicks,” “Nickleback” and “Nickle Kidman.” The “I Knew It, I Knew You” singer also attended the game in Cleveland with her fiancé, Travis Kelce, when the Knicks played the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals in May.
Regardless, Swift seemed to be enjoying the game as the Knicks rallied from a 29-point deficit to complete the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history and beat the Spurs 107-106.
The scene shifts to Game 5 in San Antonio, where the Knicks will look to win their first championship in 53 years on Saturday night (June 13).
