After cutting his first day short due to unexpected dizziness, Lionel Richie has postponed the next two shows of his tour to focus on his health.
The news came Thursday (June 25) in a statement from Live Nation Chicago, announcing that the five-time Billboard Hot 100-topping hitmaker’s back-to-back shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, have been postponed “on the advice of doctors to rest and return to full health.” His concert in Pittsburgh on Tuesday (June 30) is expected to go ahead as scheduled.
“Lionel is heartbroken to have these two shows postponed and can’t wait to perform in front of his fans again,” the statement read. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to fans who have tickets for these two performances. Postponed dates will be announced soon.”
Billboard has contacted Ritchie’s representatives for more information.
This happened after the American Idol judge suddenly had to sit on stage during the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in St. Paul, Minnesota. He reportedly tried to endure the set while telling the crowd that he was feeling “dizzy” and eventually walked off stage and asked for a break. After about 40 minutes, saxophonist Dino Sordo informed the audience that Richie was unable to continue the concert.
Ticket holders who were planning to attend Ritchie’s next two shows, originally scheduled for Friday (June 26) in Chicago and Saturday (June 27) in Columbus, have been advised that rescheduled dates will be announced soon.
