Olivia Rodrigo doesn’t seem to be sad at all now that You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love has been released to the world, with the pop star sharing a note to fans shortly after its release expressing how “thrilled” she is that the project is “finally yours.”
“I love this album so much,” she wrote in an Instagram message posted on Friday, June 12. “This record is a time capsule of relationships, both good and bad. It’s my attempt to see love from both sides of the same coin: hope and disappointment, madness and clarity, tangles and unraveling.”
Arriving three years after his second album, Guts, and five years since his debut album, Sour, both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Rodrigo’s new 13-track LP certainly covers a wide range of emotions. Opening with lead single “Drop Dead,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100, “You Seem Pretty Sad” begins as a fun, passionate love song that quickly gives way to anxiety, fear, and finally a breakup. “I know it sounds cliché, but I feel so lucky to be able to share this journey with you,” she continued, thanking producer Dan Nigro and the team at Interscope. “The idea that someone could listen to these songs and let them into their world is the most amazing thing I can think of. I’m looking forward to this!”
Also on the day of its release, Rodrigo live-debuted the track “Stupid Song” on Jimmy Kimmel Live and also premiered the music video.
She is currently gearing up for her Unraveled Tour in support of this project, starting this September and continuing through May.
