Former Paradiso Girls and GRL member Lauren Bennett has died at the age of 37. GRL’s surviving members announced the news in a statement posted to the group’s Instagram account on Monday (July 6).
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lauren,” began the statement from surviving members Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton and Emmaline Estrada. “Our hearts are broken and words cannot express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.”
They concluded their statement with, “Rest in peace, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts.”
Her cause of death has not been disclosed.
Bennett began her career in the music industry as a member of the Paradiso Girls, a group formed by Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin. Her 2009 debut single “Patrón Tequila” featuring Eve and Lil Jon peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
After Interscope left the group in 2010, Bennett continued his career as a soloist, working on remixes of “I Got It From My Mama” with artists such as Cee-Lo Green and will.i.am, and was featured on LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” which spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011.
She then joined GRL, which debuted in 2013. The group released their debut single “Vacation”, which was included on the Smurfs 2 soundtrack, in 2013, and GRL also appeared on Pitbull’s “Wild Wild Love” in 2014. Later that year, the group released their self-titled debut EP.
Bennett is the second member of the group to die, following Simone Battle, who died in 2014 at the age of 25. Battle’s death was ruled a suicide by hanging. GRL disbanded in 2015.
