Pope Leo XIV received Bad Bunny during a closed-door meeting in Madrid, Spanish public broadcaster RTVE exclusively reported on Tuesday (June 9), later confirmed in a Vatican statement. The meeting took place on Monday (June 8) at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, where the Pope held a series of meetings following a large gathering with the parish community.
A possible meeting between the pope and the Puerto Rican superstar has been the subject of speculation in recent days. The Pope is in Madrid as part of his official visit to Spain, and Bad Bunny has been in the city since late May for a 10-concert residency at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano as part of the Devi Tilard Mass Photo World Tour.
RTVE also reported that Bad Bunny representatives contacted the Spanish Episcopal Conference several weeks ago to explore the possibility of meeting with the Pope. “In fact, the idea of him taking part in a mass rally outside Madrid’s City Hall, in Plaza de Cibeles, in front of a crowd of more than a million people, was floated, but ultimately did not materialize,” the newspaper wrote.
Billboard Spain contacted both Bad Bunny’s team and the Vatican Press Office.
According to information released by RTVE, Bad Bunny attended the meeting along with his family and others, who also welcomed King Leo XIV. According to the media, several photos were taken with mobile phones during the audience, but no official images have been released so far. It is said that this includes official photos taken by the pope’s aides.
Information shared by the public broadcaster shows that the meeting was part of a series of private meetings held by the pope during his stay in Madrid. This visit coincided with Bad Bunny’s holiday. Bad Bunny will return to the stage on June 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th for their final scheduled performances in the nation’s capital.
