It’s a political satire, but it’s done in a jazz style. Randy Rainbow is once again using the power of song to take a dig at Donald Trump, this time reinterpreting the Cole Porter classic “It’s De Lovely” to say that Trump doesn’t think the president is anything.
The parody, posted on Tuesday (June 30), begins with a musical comedian playing a news correspondent, editing clips of Trump from real interviews to make it appear as if the two are having a conversation. After questioning the twice-impeached president about his handling of the widely opposed Iran war, the scene shifts to a jazz club where Rainbow, dressed in a retro tuxedo, begins singing a song titled “He’s De-Mented.”
“This stupid tyrant is like a sane tyrant,” he sings to Porter’s famous melody. “His screws are loose, his tangents are wandering/The lights are on but there’s no one home/He’s flawed, he’s destructive, he’s demented.”
Rainbow, which has created countless parodies of viral songs poking fun at the president, continues to change the lyrics of the original song to target Trump’s advanced age and “aged” appearance. “Obviously grandpa’s off his meds,” the internet personality sings. “He can hear the bipartisan fear/They’re united on the right and the left. He’s fading/It’s time for him to step down.”
The video was released after the politician’s approval rating was calculated at just 34% in the penultimate week of June, according to Reuters. Many of Trump’s former supporters, conservative commentators, have turned against him, taking issue with his approach to the Iran conflict in particular. Two months ago, President Trump threatened that “tonight, the entire civilization will perish” if Iran did not agree to a cease-fire agreement. At the time of writing, the United States is still slowly moving forward with peace negotiations with Iran.
