Rod Stewart was forced to cancel a concert in Utah after nearly passing out on stage and requiring oxygen.
According to TMZ, the 81-year-old rock legend appeared visibly unwell during a show at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater in West Valley City on Friday (June 19) and was seen cringing in discomfort before using an oxygen tank to help him breathe.
After struggling to finish his 1981 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Young Turks,” Stewart appeared more motionless and leaning against stage equipment until team members brought out an oxygen tank, as seen in video footage released by the outlet.
The “Maggie May” singer later told the crowd that she nearly passed out but insisted “the show must go on.” Then he jokingly asked, “Can I sit on this?” before continuing with the performance.
Stewart ended up leaving Friday’s concert sitting in his chair. West Valley City is located about 4,300 feet above sea level, which may have played a role in the incident, TMZ reported.
In late May, Stewart hinted that his current “One Last Time” farewell tour could end his extensive touring career.
“We’ve got 40-odd shows this year, not that many,” Stewart told British soccer chat show TalkSport. “Next year we’ll be touring the UK and doing the O2 and I think that’s probably it. I’ll have to do something new…come to the shows more often.”
The iconic singer-songwriter added that he may take a break from extensive touring after the remainder of this year and a planned UK show in 2027.
Stewart recently came under fire for canceling a June 12 concert at San Diego’s North Island Credit Union Amphitheater less than an hour before it began, citing health issues. However, a few hours later he played in a Scotland World Cup match in Boston.
A statement posted on the venue’s Instagram at the time said: “He has made every effort to come to the venue and perform, but due to medical advice and a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory tract infection causing laryngitis, he will not be able to take the stage tonight.”
Stewart currently has a number of U.S. dates scheduled for July and August as part of his “One Last Time” tour. The trip will conclude with a show in St. Louis on August 15th. He will then head to Las Vegas for several stops.
