Solomun has announced a June 19th show at Pacha New York that is special for several reasons. It will be the high-profile artist’s first performance at the new venue, which will host a preview weekend starting Saturday (June 13) in Brooklyn. It will be a show especially for all the fans who stood in the pouring rain for his performance at New York’s Fulton Fish Market and Knockdown Center in May. It’s free, and you’ll find Soloman bending his own rules to make it happen.
“Too many coincidences. Too many unexpected developments. Too many things falling into place at exactly the right time,” the artist wrote on social media on Thursday, June 11. “Of course I knew about the plans for Pacha New York and, yes, I was asked if I wanted to be a part of it. Had the circumstances been different, I probably would have said yes without thinking twice. Pacha has been a part of my life for 14 years, but the only possible date was in the middle of the Ibiza season.”
“I’ve followed that rule for over 10 years, and I’ve never questioned it,” he continued. “When summer starts, I’m in Europe. No long-haul flights, no traveling between time zones. That’s a rhythm that has worked well for me for a very long time. So my answer was no. But they made that Friday available anyway. No reservations, no backup plans, just hope. And the Bronx wrote the story in a way that no one could have predicted.”
“Thousands of you. Even in 50 degrees and soaking wet, no one moved. The energy never dropped. And then we ended up spending another five hours together at the Knockdown Center, and with almost no warning it was announced and you all showed up. It was just crazy. I kept thinking about it. And at a certain point I asked myself, ‘Who am I to stay in my comfort zone when you guys are leaving me?’ So I’m going out for the first time and I’m coming back to New York to open Pacha. ”
The show will be held on Friday, June 19th, the first night of the new club’s official opening weekend. Access will be provided to those who attend the Fulton Fish Market Show and Knockdown Center afterparty through a registration lottery, and registration links will be provided to this crowd via email. (As Solomun noted in the announcement, not everyone who can register will receive a ticket, given that Pacha’s capacity is smaller than Fulton Fish Market or Knockdown Center.) VIP tables for the show will also be available for purchase.
As Solomun mentioned, the show is particularly meaningful given its long-standing relationship with Pacha Ibiza, which has maintained its legendary residence for the past 14 seasons. This +1 residency is currently running through early October, with special guests each week. Guests during the season include Idris Elba, Skrillex, Peggy Goo, Jamie XX, Max Styler, Barry Can’t Swim, Enima, and Dixon.
