Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are celebrating their fast-approaching wedding day by giving back to the American cities that were most special to them, donating $26 million to charities in Kansas City, New York City, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Reading, Pennsylvania and more.
A representative for the pop superstar broke the news to Billboard on Thursday (July 2), sending them a list of 20 organizations in the United States that will benefit from the couple’s donations. While some of the charities serve nationwide, such as Feeding America, the ASPCA, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and Grammy in the Schools, most of the charities are located in cities and towns that are personally important to Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
That includes Helping Harvest in Reading, where Swift was born and raised nearby, and After School All Stars in Kelsey’s hometown of Cleveland. The couple also chose to donate to The Store Food Bank in Nashville, where the 14-time Grammy Award winner first started her music career, and Children’s Mercy Hospital and Harvesters – Community Food Network in Kansas City, home of the team Kelsey has played for since 2013.
In addition to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank (both located where Swift lived and worked), the singer and athlete has donated to several charities in New York City, where Swift plans to marry soon after living for more than a decade. Big Apple organizations include City Harvest, Food Bank For NYC, New York Cares, Education Through Music, Answer The Call, Musical Mentors, After-School All-Stars, MSK Kids, and Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone.
Although it wasn’t specified in the official announcement, this surprising donation appears to be part of how Swift and Kelsea will celebrate their wedding weekend, especially considering each city on the list has personal significance to the couple. Police sources say the couple plans to celebrate their wedding on July 3 at Madison Square Garden.
