Taylor Swift has released a different version of her new Toy Story 5 song, “I Knew It, I Knew You.”
On Sunday (June 7), the 36-year-old pop superstar made acoustic and piano versions of the song available for digital download.
Swift announced the release on her Instagram Story, sharing Apple Music links to both versions of the song. These tracks can also be purchased individually from her website for 99 cents each.
The original studio version of “I Knew It, I Knew You” will be released on Friday, June 5th and will be included on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack. The fifth installment of the animated series is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19th, with the soundtrack arriving on the same day.
On June 1st, Swift officially announced that she will be contributing “I Knew It, I Knew You” to Toy Story 5, as well as making physical copies of the song available through her website. Acoustic and piano performances were previously available only as CD singles.
Written from Jessie’s perspective, the song finds the cowgirl rekindling her romance with Buzz Lightyear while reminiscing about her cherished memories with Woody as the toys embark on a new adventure together.
“Writing this song felt like both a musical departure and a coming home. Creating something for Jesse was a new challenge, but it also felt like second nature,” Swift wrote in X. “And being a Toy Story kid from the age of five until now…I’m going to continue to explore into infinity and beyond.”
“I Knew It, I Knew You” also marks a new collaboration between Swift and longtime producer Jack Antonoff.
Toy Story 5 director and writer Andrew Stanton praised the collaboration in a statement, saying, “It’s incredible how much it meant to have Taylor write and perform this song.”
The film reunites the series stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and returns Joan Cusack as Jesse. Now, the beloved toy faces new challenges as technology and tablets compete for the attention of today’s children.
