Taylor Swift’s newly released original song “I Knew It, I Knew You,” written for the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, topped this week’s new song poll.
Listeners voted in a poll released Friday (June 6) on Billboard to choose the singer-songwriter’s latest song as their favorite release of the week.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” rose to the top spot that week, along with new music from Tinashe, Vybz Kartel, Niall Horan, Role Models, Lizzo and more. By the end of Sunday, polls showed Swift holding the lead with 35% of the vote.
Following the cloud-themed clue, Swift officially announced “I Knew It, I Knew You” just days before Friday’s release, revealing, “Ever since I saw the first Toy Story movie as a 5-year-old kid, I’ve dreamed of writing songs for my favorite characters. I was lucky enough to see Toy Story 5 in its early stages and fell in love with it right away. I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening.”
“I Knew It, I Knew You” finds Swift reuniting in the studio with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff (who had moved on to Max Martin and Shellback production for Showgirls), and musically it harks back to Starr’s early pop-country days, with the song’s narrator leaving the porch light on for his muse. “The light from the window with the same smile/It’s been a long time/But I knew, I knew you,” she sings warmly.
Shortly after its release, the song was accompanied by an animated video featuring clips of Jessie, Woody, and Buzz from Pixar and Disney’s Toy Story film series. “Toy Story 5” will be released in theaters on June 19th.
Among the new releases following Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” this week is Tinashe’s “Too Easy,” which received 28% of the vote. Vybz Kartel’s God & Time, which received 18% of the vote, and Niall Horan’s Dinner Party, which received 5% of the vote.
