One of the suspects arrested after the attack near the Central Dam Square in the Dutch capital.

Police said at least four people were injured in a stabbing attack in Amsterdam’s Dutch capital.

One suspect was arrested after the incident near Central Dam Square on Thursday.

“The motivation is still unknown at the moment, but it’s part of the investigation,” police said in a statement on social media.

There was no immediate information on the conditions of the injured.

A trauma helicopter landed at Dam Square and landed on the victims, but police vans and ambulances were also present.

Police said the attack took place on a nearby street at 3:30pm (14:30 GMT). The square was blocked and reopened after about two hours.

Images from local news agency ANP showed people loading their luggage behind the ambulance being loaded behind the ambulance.

According to local media reports, Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema left the meeting at the town hall when news of the attack broke.

Police previously said five people were injured in the attack, but later revealed that the suspect was injured.

“The suspect was overwhelmed with the help of a citizen… His leg was injured and he was taken to the hospital,” police said on the social media post office.
