Samsung said Wednesday it will add Google’s Gemini AI to its home robot Ballie through its partnership with Google Cloud. Users can ask the robots for various queries and get answers from Gemini, the company said.

Samsung aims to take advantage of the multimodal capabilities of the robot Gemini. The Korean tech giant said Ballie will combine its own AI with Google’s AI to enable audio and video input to answer a variety of questions. For example, you could ask the bot, “How do I see it?” And they use cameras and visual intelligence to provide outfit suggestions.

Barry can also tap on Gemini to provide health-related recommendations. For example, you can also use suggestions and methods to improve your sleep. Beyond that, you can ask the robots for various general knowledge queries.

“Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefineing the role of AI at home,” Yongjae Kim, EVP of Samsung’s Visual Display business, said in a statement. “By combining Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Barry, we leverage the power of open collaboration to unleash a new era of personalized AI companions. Move with users, predict needs in a more dynamic and meaningful way, and interact in a more dynamic and meaningful way than ever.”

Samsung has shown various versions of Barry at trade shows like CES over the years. In early 2025, the company said the robots would eventually reach Korean and US consumers in the first half of this year.

Samsung had already partnered with Google to start with the Gemini with the Galaxy S24 and integrate it with Galaxy series smartphones. Samsung and Google are reportedly working on XR devices as well, and Gemini could be at the heart of that experience.
