Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first Indian Premier League title, defeating the Punjab Kings by six runs.

Royal Challenger Bengaluru and their star name Virat Kohli won their first Indian Premier League title by beating the Punjab Kings in six runs.

Bengaluru finished runner-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but won at Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Kohli shed tears as Bengaluru concluded the 18th season of the world’s most popular T20 tournament by winning.

“This victory is the same for the team and for the fans. It’s been 18 years, 18,” said Kohli, who has been associated with Bengaluru since its first edition in 2008.

“I gave my prime, I was young, I gave it everything I had. I didn’t expect this day to come. I quickly overcome the emotions as soon as the last ball was bowled.”

Kohli scored a top score in Bengaluru, 43 runs from 35 balls to 190-9 in 20 overs. Punjab Pacers Arshdeep Singh (3-40) and Kyle Jamieson (3-48) shared six wickets between them.

The Punjab’s reply uttered after a good start and despite half-century comfort from Shashank Singh, it was short and ended 184-7 (20 overs).

Bengaluru lost Fil Salt with 16 runs. That slowed Kohli. Kohli only hit three with a distinctive knock. The Indian batting star has finished with 700 runs in 16 matches this season.

Kohli has made important partnerships with Mayank Agarwal (24) and Skipper Rajat Patidar (26). Their cameos continued to carve scorecards.

Azmatullah Omarzai got an important wicket and sent Kohli back, and Jamieson locked up Patidar LBW to get second.

Jitesh Sharma then provided acceleration, hitting two Sixes and two fours to get 24 balls out of 10 balls, while Liam Livingstone hit two sixes with 25 balls of 15 balls.

From 131-4 with 14.5 overs, it was enough to push Bengaluru past 190.

In response, Punjab started off well as Priyansh Alia (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) got 43 balls from 30 balls.

Salt sent Aria back by smart catch hopping across the boundary, and Pandaya attacked after a power play.

First he sent back Prabhsimran.

The turning point came on the 10th as Schreyers Iyer got caught in one behind by the Romanio Shepherd.

Josh Inglis scored 39 balls from 23 balls, including four Six, but he left Pandia 13th in another body blow for the Kings’ pursuit.

It was a difficult task for Punjab as Bengaluru bowlers then narrowed the execution rate.

Shashank Singh maintained the Put and scored 61 points from 30 balls, including the Six Sixes, but reduced the margin of victory.
