ControlPoint Inc. is committed to developing clinical trial tools that improve animal health in companions and producer animals.

Respiratory infections pose a significant threat to the health and productivity of both producer and companion animals, costing billions of dollars a year. In the US alone, these infectious diseases will lead to a staggering economic loss of $900 million in the feedlot industry, $1 billion in the pig industry and $3.5 billion devastating during the 2021-2023 avian flu outbreak. Companion animals are also heavily affected, with 5 million dogs coughing in their kennels every year. If it is positive for a distemper, half may not survive, and dogs with pneumonia can take up to three weeks to recover with intensive supportive care.

Revolution of Animal Health: ControlPoint Inc. PET’s Pioneer Rapid Diagnosis

ControlPoint Inc. is an innovative animal diagnostics company dedicated to changing the welfare of animals globally. With its mission to provide accessible, fast clinical testing, ControlPoint is poised to launch its early products. An innovative point-of-care test for the dog infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC), known as dog skin cough.

CIRDCs are highly contagious and early and accurate detection is important. All dog breeds and ages are susceptible to the effects, especially those in multiple dog environments such as doghouses, shelters and daycare facilities. What makes CIRDC especially challenging is that it can be caused by multiple bacteria and viruses.

Currently, veterinarians often rely on educated speculations to treat cough in doghouses, as existing tests are expensive and can take several days to get results. This delay can put the pet’s parents on the periphery and undermine the effectiveness of the treatment. ControlPoint’s groundbreaking tests modify this by providing a definitive diagnosis on the same day of visits and allowing targeted treatments based on the specific pathogens present.

Paula Walker, CEO and founder of Control Point Inc., said: “The bond between humans and pets is stronger than ever, and “pet parents” has become a new norm. Human medicine evolves rapidly, providing faster, more accurate, and more cumbersome diagnosis.

“ControlPoint brings innovative new tools to veterinarians and other animals caring.”

ControlPoint Inc. is committed to developing tools that will significantly improve the health of both companion and producer animals.
