It’s a sad weekend with Bluesky, and one of the best accounts has disappeared, but you can expect a comeback.
The account in question, known as the Blueski Louvre, was terrified in the minds of bad posters everywhere. It posted an explanatory commentary and joke of its own, but its most cruelly entertaining and unforgettable work came in the form of screenshots capturing illicit blueski posts in all their glory.
With the rubble vanishing, it is difficult to write a proper appreciation. It is truly impossible to create a complete taxonomy of all kinds of poster diseases captured in the wild. Perhaps the posted feature captured by the Louvre in Bruski was beyond the simple failure of making a joke – its old tone, along with its old bone tone, and a sense of absolute rage that someone might be enjoying the internet somewhere.
Maybe I project too much into an anonymous social media account full of screenshots, but for me it felt like the exact opposite of my boring nausea complaint that Bluesky is a liberal echo chamber. This was not the person who spent several minutes on the site just confirming the doubt and writing a few versions of the same op-ed. Whether they loved or hated Blueski, anyone who ran the account knew clearly the darkest corner of the site. They knew what an absolute stranger the user was.
The account also felt like a warning at times – every one of us felt that in moments of weakness something could post something ignorant or persistent. Just knowing that the Bluesky Louvre was there was enough (not often) to scare me to remove some stupid or obvious replies.
So where did Bruski go to Louvre? In a Patreon post, the account’s author said that “losers and cowards” would be defeated “temporarily” to send an email to his boss and wife’s boss. They added, “I don’t know if my account will remain closed.”
It’s not that much to continue. I hope that the Blueski Louvre will soon be reopened, like a real museum. But even if not, that spirit will continue to bother us all who remember the few keystrokes that separate us from being immortalized due to bad posts.
