How will the Congressional Settlement Bill affect transportation? According to Streetsblog USA editor Kea Wilson, five major transportation-related regulations spell out bad news for sustainable transportation advocates.

For one, the bill eliminates modest but important benefits for bike commuters as well as other clean commuter benefits. “Workers relying on a mix of transit passes and bumping could deduct $175 for the costs associated with each mode from taxes, but the parking benefits at the time when buses were not coming is an additional $175. The new bill would allow multimodal commuters to deduct a total of $175 across all of their transport.”

The bill will hold up to $10,000 in credits for purchasing a vehicle and eliminate fines for car manufacturers that violate emission standards. The bill also kills federal EV tax credits and rebates for installing chargers. It will also cut funding for a variety of climate-related projects, including the Low Carbon Transport Materials Program and the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant Program.
