In the wake of violent immigrant raids and widespread fears among migrant communities, Los Angeles transport fell in June, reports Joe Linton of Streetsblog LA.
Some ice temptations were made during transport by bus stops, stations and buses. Some bus operators have resisted ice to protect riders, and supporters have pushed this to the transport to formally step up. However, the transit trip never begins and ends in transit. Most bus and rail riders begin their journey on foot – travelling along sidewalks in LA, exposed to ice attacks.
In particular, Metro riders have grown for the previous 30 months. “In June 2025, Metro saw an average weekday ride of 877,008, down 6.6% from 939,615 last June.”
Metro’s newly expanded K-line saw the best ridership month in June, but many of this was riders shifting from the other lines. According to Linton, “New connections and LAX stations – and even the best ridership month of three years, the K-line was open – the dehumanized raids of Ice have significantly reduced riderships across the Metro system.”
