Snapchat lets your friends know that you’ve safely made it home

Snapchat is launching a new way to let users and families know that their homes have been safe after going out, called “Home Safe,” announced by the social network on Thursday.

To use this feature, you will need to tap Bitmoji on the snapmap and then “My House” to set the home location. If you want to notify your friends when you leave and get home, open a conversation, tap the map icon, then tap the Home Safe button.

Your friends will receive automatic alerts in your chat conversations when you arrive at home.

Snapchat says alerts can only be sent to friends who already share your location. Additionally, location sharing on snapmaps is turned off by default, so no one will be able to see your location or receive safe alerts for your home unless you choose to share.

“Whether you’re coming back from your first date, busy concerts or weekend getaways, HomeSafe provided the emotional security of your best friends and family and made you go home safely,” Snapchat wrote in a blog post.

This new feature comes two months after Snapchat announced that Snap Map has over 400 million monthly active users.

Released in 2017, Snap Map was originally a way for users to see their friends’ locations and browse public snaps around the world. Over time, this feature has evolved, providing a way for users to discover local hotspots and find out what to do.
