Cognition, an AI coding startup that acquired rival Windsurf three weeks ago, fired 30 employees last week and is offering the acquisition to around 200 employees on its team, information reports.

This is the latest match of whiplash that Windsurf employees faced after the company’s turbulent growth. The startup was initially nearly acquired by Openai, and then led to Google in a $2.4 billion deal known as Reverse-Acquihire (which Google hired major talent rather than buying the company) before its CEO, co-founder and research were eventually acquired by recognition.

At the time of the acquisition, recognition said 100% of Windsurf employees will receive financial compensation as part of the transaction, and emphasized that the company is excited to bring in “world-class people” from Windsurf to develop a top-class coding tool.

Now, it is clear that Windsurf’s intellectual property was not his talent, but his real shopping.

According to information viewed, the email said the employee was given until August 10th and decided whether to make an acquisition equivalent to a nine-month salary. Those who choose to stay are reportedly required to spend six days in the office and record for more than 80 hours or more for more than week.

“We don’t believe in work-life balance. Building the future of software engineering is a mission that we all care deeply about not being able to separate the two,” cognitive CEO Scott Wu wrote in an email.

TechCrunch is reaching out to perceptions for more details.
