Meta’s former policy director Nick Clegg appears to be walking the tightrope when he promotes his upcoming book, “How to Save the Internet.”

Unlike other specific meta-employee memoirs, “How to Save the Internet” doesn’t sound like everything or a poignant critique. And in an interview with The Guardian, Clegg (who previously led the British Liberal Democrats) appears to be keeping his distance from Silicon Valley without denialing his previous employer at all.

“Despite its imperfection, I believe social media is allowing billions of people.

Still, he delivers memorable sounds about the Valley, describing it as a “Croy-compliant” culture where “everyone wears the same clothes, drives the same cars, listens to the same podcasts, and continues to the same trend.”

Clegg also said that, mystiqued by the growing obsession with masculinity in the industry, “I can’t understand this deeply unattractive combination of machismo and self-esteem, but I still couldn’t.”
