RAM will end the EV pickup truck plan

All-electric RAM 1500 Rev pickup truck is dead. Make the extended range of RAM 1500 Rev (formerly known as Ramcharger) into Long Live.

Stellantis, the parent company of RAM, said Friday that it will no longer develop full-size battery-electric pickups. The company cited low demand for full-size battery-electric trucks as the main reason, according to a statement sent to TechCrunch and posted on its website.

“As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis will reevaluate its product strategy and halt development of full-size BEV pickups,” the company’s statement reads. “As part of this, RAM is renamed the Reev-equipped pickup to the RAM 1500 Rev (formerly Ramcharger). The vehicle will set new benchmarks for the halfton segment, providing exceptional range, towing capabilities and payload performance.”

If the name swap is confusing, that’s true. But it’s worth knowing here. Stellantis cancels plans to develop electric battery pickups and instead pursues a range that will earn an estimated 690 miles through the novel combining batteries and gas generators.

The RAM 1500 all-electric pickup was part of parent company Stellantis’s US product attack, selling over 25 all-new Bevs by the end of the decade. But the future has been a problem for months.

After a flashy reveal at CES 2023 and other showcases in the months that followed, Stellantis swung with its EV truck plan. Stellantis initially said it would begin production of the vehicle in 2024. That date was immediately skied in 2025.

By the end of 2024, Stellantis had delayed plans to develop technology, a longer cabin with third row jump seats, and a wide-shoulder pickup with two huge, industry-breaking battery pack options. At the time, Stellantis said it would push the release in 2026.
