At Meta Connect 2025 on Wednesday, the company unveiled its new Oakley Meta Vanguard Smart Glasses, targeting runners, cyclists and other athletes. The glasses will be on sale for $499 and will be available on October 21st.

Meta Connect is the biggest meeting of the social networking giants, and is introducing smart glasses and VR headsets.

The glasses feature a large unified front lens, rather than placing two cameras in the top corner of the frame, which is found in previous Meta Smart Glasses and Oakley Meta HSTN models. The new glasses can capture video at resolutions of up to 3k and feature a 12 megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens.

Oakley Meta Vanguard Smart Glasses features programmable buttons that can trigger custom AI prompts and can be set up using the Meta AI app. Meta notes that all buttons on the smart glasses are placed underneath them, allowing athletes to wear their helmets comfortably while in use.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses have a battery life of up to 9 hours or continuous music playback for up to 6 hours. The glasses come with a charging case that provides an additional 36 hours of charging on the go. Meta points out that users can quickly charge their glasses to 50% in 20 minutes via the charging case.

According to Meta, the open-ear speaker, which is six decibels more eloquent than the Oakley Meta HSTN, is the most powerful speaker in any of its glasses. It also features a 5 micro fan array optimized to reduce wind noise while using calls, messaging, or meta AI in your voice.

The glasses feature IP67 dust and water resistance rating for use during intense training. This is the best of Meta’s smart glasses. According to Meta, the wraparound design of the glasses features Oakley Prizmtm lens technology, designed to block the sun, wind and dust.

In line with the athletic theme, the glasses can be integrated with Garmin SmartWatches. Users can ask smart glasses for stats such as heart rate and pace while participating in running, cycling, or other activities. It can also be integrated with Strava. Users can graphically overlay performance metrics on videos and photos captured by Oakley Metavanguard and share them directly with the Strava community.

The glasses come in four frames and lens colors: Oakley Meta Vanguard Black with Prizmtm 24k, Oakley Meta Vanguard White with Prizmtm Black, Oakley Meta Vanguard Black on Prizmtm Road, and Prizmtm Saphire and Oakley Meta Vanguard White.

Oakley Metavanguard will be available in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Meta is expected to launch glasses in Mexico, India, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates later this year.

Wednesday’s announcement comes three months after Meta unveiled the Oakley Meta HSTN Smart Glasses. At the time, the company said the smart glasses were “the first product for athletes and fans.”

Meta also announced on Wednesday a new pair of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses with built-in displays for apps, photos and directions along with wearable wristbands. Additionally, Tech Giant has announced the new Ray-Ban Meta 2, which has up to twice the battery life of previous models and 3K Ultra HD video capture.
