Disable generation AI features

Mozilla on Monday announced a new control section in the Firefox desktop browser settings that allows users to completely turn off the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) feature.

“This provides a single place to block current and future generative AI features in Firefox,” said Firefox head Ajit Varma. “If you choose to use AI features, you can also review and manage individual AI features. This allows you to use Firefox without AI while we continue to develop AI features for users who need them.”

Mozilla first announced plans to integrate AI into Firefox in November 2025, saying it was fully opt-in and building the technology while putting users in the driver’s seat.

This new feature is scheduled to roll out in Firefox 148, scheduled for release on February 24, 2026. Initially, AI controls will allow users to independently manage the following settings:

Translation Alternative text in PDF (adds accessibility descriptions to images in PDF pages) AI-enhanced tab grouping (suggests related tab and group names) Link preview (shows important points before opening a link) AI chatbots in sidebar (use well-known chatbots like Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Le Chat Mistral, etc. as you navigate the web)

cyber security

Mozilla said user choice is important as more AI capabilities are built into web browsers, adding that it believes people should be in control, regardless of how they feel about the technology.

“If you don’t want to use Firefox’s AI features at all,[AI 拡張機能のブロック]You can turn on a toggle,” Varma said. “When turned on, you won’t see pop-ups or reminders to use existing or upcoming AI features.”

Last month, Mozilla’s new CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo said the company would focus on giving users agency over how its products work and becoming a trusted software company. “Privacy, data use, and AI must be clear and easy to understand,” said Enzor-DeMeo. “Controls should be simple. AI should always be an option and something people can easily turn off.”
