British manufacturers will save millions of pounds a year if the UK government removes tariffs on offshore wind energy components from April 1.

Offshore wind tariffs will be removed from 33 industrial products in new measures to help the UK progress towards its mission as a clean energy superpower.

The move will enable UK manufacturers to produce parts at lower costs, allowing them to reinvest in clean energy.

Offshore wind: the backbone of the UK’s clean energy sector

This investment in the UK’s largest source of renewable energy is essential to tackling the climate crisis and building the UK’s energy security.

According to LCOE industry metrics, offshore wind is 40% cheaper to produce and maintain than new gas projects.

This follows the record 8.4GW and £22bn of offshore wind investment secured in Round 7 of Difference Agreements in January 2026, which is enough clean energy to power more than 12 million homes.

This includes Berwick Bank in the North Sea, the first new Scottish project since 2022 and one of the world’s largest planned offshore wind projects.

Delivering on trade strategy promises

The removal of offshore wind charges highlights the UK Government’s vision to align the outcomes of the Industry and Trade Strategy and demonstrates its ability to use trade measures strategically to drive growth while supporting domestic industry.

This directly delivers on the trade strategy’s promise to ensure that the UK’s international trade and environmental objectives are mutually supported by pursuing outcomes that secure access to the goods, services and technology needed for the transition to clean energy, including internationally.

Approved use measures ensure offshore wind tariffs are zero

The new authorized use measure will conditionally reduce import duties paid at borders to zero.

This condition ensures that UK producers are not penalized by cheaper imports from other sectors that may use similar products.

The Authorized Use Procedure allows UK-based traders to pay reduced or zero duty on imported goods, provided the goods are used for a specific purpose and processed within a set period of time.

Eligible imports under this measure include manufactured items of cables, rotors, rotor blades, and auxiliary and low-voltage systems used in onshore and offshore substations or wind turbines, as specified in the Authorized Use Procedures.

CN10 codes subject to this measure include:

3921139000: For the manufacture of rotor blades installed in offshore wind turbines used in offshore wind power generation 8537101090: For the manufacture of auxiliary and low voltage systems installed in onshore and offshore substations used in offshore wind power generation 8535900089: For the manufacture of cables installed offshore Wind energy production 8503009899: For the manufacture of rotors integrated into offshore wind turbines used in offshore wind energy production
