The European Commission has launched a new €210 million funding round under Horizon Europe Cluster 6 for ground-breaking environmental and sustainability research projects.
This call supports initiatives focused on biodiversity, circular economy innovation and pollution reduction across Europe.
The latest Horizon Europe Cluster 6 funding package allocates €76 million for biodiversity and ecosystem services research, €101 million for circular economy and bioeconomy projects and €33 million for clean environment and zero pollution initiatives.
Applications are being accepted until September 17, 2026.
The program aims to accelerate research that supports the European Green Deal and wider climate change goals.
Successful proposals are expected to contribute to restoring biodiversity, improving food security, reducing environmental damage and promoting low-carbon economic models in urban and rural areas.
Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Focus Areas
Horizon Europe Cluster 6 targets research and innovation related to food systems, agriculture, natural resources, forestry, oceans and environmental protection.
The program also supports projects related to bio-based industries and circular production systems.
Key areas targeted for funding include environmental monitoring, biodiversity protection, sustainable agriculture, forestry management, marine ecosystems, food system innovation, and circular bioeconomy development.
The European Commission said the program aims to drive “transformative change” in the way natural resources are managed and support Europe’s transition to a more resource-efficient and climate-resilient economy.
Supporting the European Green Deal
Research funded through Horizon Europe Cluster 6 will directly contribute to several key EU policy initiatives, including the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, the Farm to Fork Strategy and the European Climate Agreement.
This funding call is also in line with the EU’s long-term strategy for sustainable rural development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Officials hope supported projects will result in practical innovations that can strengthen food and nutrition security while reducing environmental pressures.
Cluster 6 forms part of the wider Horizon Europe framework. It is the EU’s flagship research and innovation program designed to support scientific cooperation and technological development across Member States and partner countries.
Application deadline
Organizations, universities, research institutes, companies and consortia seeking funding for Horizon Europe Cluster 6 must submit proposals by September 17, 2026.
Applicants are also encouraged to review guidance materials and recordings from the official Cluster 6 Info Days to improve the quality and competitiveness of their submissions.
